5-STAR Kaliq Lockett Talks Recruitment | LSU, FSU, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and More!
Sachse (Texas) five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett possesses offers from the who’s who of college football. As he works through his recruitment, he’s drowning in interest from high-profile programs on a daily basis.
Now the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 2 wideout in the On3 Industry Ranking, Lockett’s stock continues to rise as one of the most intriguing pass-catchers to come out of the Lone Star State in some time.
Frankly, he could care less about the stars next to his name.
“I keep my head on my shoulders. I don’t ever let anything get to my head. All the five-star stuff is cool, but when you step between the white lines, it don’t even matter, especially when you get to college, that’s out the window,” Lockett told On3’s Phillip Dukes on ‘The Five Star Flex’. “I don’t even look at myself as a five-star, I look at myself as someone who’s trying to get to the next level.”
While his focus remains on his upcoming senior season, Lockett has taken advantage of his spring by setting up plenty of visits. This month has already seen trips to Florida State and Penn State, while a visit to Ohio State is on the cards this weekend. In April, he’s set to see Texas, LSU and Texas A&M once more. June OVs to see the Longhorns and USC are also already on the docket.
Earlier this month, Lockett was a standout prospect at the Under Armour camp in Houston. He received high praise from On3 scouting and rankings assistant Cody Bellaire:
“The 2025 wideout stands out from a physical perspective standing in around 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, but his arm length and nearly 6-foot-7 wingspan is truly eye-popping,” Bellaire wrote. “It allows for him to effortlessly catch passes away from his frame and make big time plays over defenders. His ability to go up and pluck the football on top of defenders and consistently win 50-50 balls is phenomenal. But the fact he can be so dominant at the catch and still route defenders up like other dynamic, slot receivers is what makes him such a special prospect.”
Lockett breaks down his interest in six schools
While Lockett is yet to officially release a list of top schools, there are a few that are standing out above the rest. He dove into his interest in six programs with Dukes:
Texas: “Being a kid from the Dallas area, that’s all people talk about. It’s Texas, Oklahoma, SMU, but mainly it’s Texas. I liked Texas growing up. What I like about them is how balanced their offense is. You saw Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell, they moved around different spots in the field. They all were in-sync with each other’s play style. That’s what I like about Texas.”
: “What people don’t know is one of my grannies, she taught at A&M. She taught Mike Evans, Myles Garrett, Christian Kirk, all those guys. I remember being a kid, running around the facility, with the players, that’s a memory I have with A&M. That place is kind of sentimental to me because I spent so much time there as a kid. That would play a big factor in it, too. And I really like what Coach (Mike) Elko is doing with the program. I feel like he’s going to take A&M to the next level.”
USC: “Really, my family is from the Los Angeles area. That’s all they talked about was USC, USC, USC. My dad’s favorite player is Reggie Bush.”
Ohio State: “Wide receiver-U. No other way to put it. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, they have all these guys in the league. Coach (Brian) Hartline, He’s one of, if not the best wide receiver guru in college football. He has those guys under his belt. That’s what I like about Ohio State, he believes that I can be an impact player at Ohio State.”
LSU: “That is also wide receiver-U, it’s them and Ohio State. One of my favorite players, Odell Beckham, he was at LSU. I used to watch LSU a whole bunch back when he was there. Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, now seeing Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas over there, they were balling and had the No. 1 offense in the country. Coach (Cortez) Hankton, me and him have a great relationship.”
Florida State: “My first time going to Florida State, I did not think I was going to like it the way I did. Being a kid from Texas, it’s a little bit of a rivalry between the state of Florida and Texas when it comes to wide receivers. Florida’s got some dogs at wide receiver. We got a lot of dogs too in Texas. When I went there, it blew my mind, man. Coach (Mike) Norvell, Coach (Ron) Dugans, man they blew my mind, I got to consider Florida State, too. Keon Coleman, Kelvin Benjamin, a long list of receivers, too.
